This wordpress site brings together in one location links to original practice and documentation of practice exhibitions and performances undertaken as part of this doctoral thesis.

The practice in this PhD performs two primary functions. Firstly it constitutes part of a creative-critical thesis (illustrates, exemplifies and presents contributions to knowledge); in attempting to test, frustrate and challenge the edges of the traditional subject positions of writer, publisher and reader, it does research (i.e. it is practice-based). Secondly it forms the basis of a practice-led investigation as it charts with examples my progress from a print and spoken word poetic practice into a digital poetry practice. Each practice listing contains a statement articulating how that particular piece of practice is intended to function in this thesis. To some extent all of the pieces in the portfolio fulfil the practice-led condition, as contributing to my development of a digital practice, but there are cases where it is more explicit than others (this is generally made clear in the listing statement).

The practice in this portfolio contains a mixture of types of practice in which I variously perform the role of writer, publisher, coder, designer or a combination of those roles. Most of the pieces are collaborative. When these pieces have appeared in public the attribution normally just credits all the artists as collaborators, which is very much in the spirit of the argument of the written thesis (which promotes distributary rather than attributary models). However for the purposes of adhering to academic integrity as stipulated in the regulations each practice listing on this webpage includes a statement of attribution which clarifies precisely the role I performed for each item.

Each practice listing in this directory also includes a statement explaining the intended compatibilities for the items in terms of both hardware and software.

This webpage is a constituent part of the PhD submission. In addition to this for the final library submission the code for the contents of the creative works listed herein will be archived on a USB drive.
